A zoom figure on an iCSee PTZ camera can mean moving glass or an enlarged crop. Knowing which one you are buying decides whether a gate, a plate or a face at the end of the drive comes out readable.
Reviewed September 2026The 10x on the iCSee 8MP dual-lens PTZ is digital zoom. Optical zoom among the compact Wi-Fi heads tops out at 4.3x on the Anssipo 3-lens, inside its 8x hybrid figure, with 4x optical on the 6MP 3-lens PTZ. Genuine 30x optical belongs to larger PTZ domes built around a motorised zoom block.
Optical zoom changes the focal length, so the sensor's full resolution lands on a narrower slice of the scene. Digital zoom crops the frame the sensor already captured and stretches that crop to fill the screen.
The difference shows in the numbers. A 2560×1440 frame zoomed 4x digitally leaves a crop of 640×360 pixels, enlarged to full size. The same 4x done optically keeps all 2560×1440 pixels on the narrower view.
Digital zoom still earns its place. It lets you look closer at a parcel or a car during live view without turning the camera away from the rest of the scene. Pinching a recording on your phone later gives much the same enlargement, so treat it as a viewing aid rather than reach.
Focal length is the other clue. A single figure such as 3.6mm means a fixed lens, and most iCSee heads use one. The Anssipo's lower head holds two lenses, and its optical figure comes from that pair working together.

Zoom, lens and rotation figures as each maker states them. The GESKS 9MP is described inconsistently, optical in one spec field and plain 8x elsewhere, so plan on digital performance.
The 8MP dual-lens PTZ is the iCSee camera that prints 10x on the box, and that 10x is digital. Two 3.6mm lenses on independent sensors split the job into a far view and a near view, shown on two screens at once.
The head pans 270° and tilts 90° under app control, a narrower pan than the 355° common elsewhere in the range. Mount it on a corner, so the arc it cannot reach faces the wall behind it.
Because the zoom is a crop, 10x on this camera narrows the view without adding detail. It helps you point at a gate and watch it on a phone screen. Reading a plate at distance is a job the optical models do better with less zoom.
Cameras sold as “30x zoom” with the iCSee app are larger PTZ domes built around a motorised optical zoom block. They weigh more, draw more power and are usually wired. The compact dual- and 3-lens heads stop at 4.3x optical and 10x digital.
A 30x job, such as reading a gate 50 metres off, calls for that heavier class of camera on a solid pole or wall bracket. On a drive of normal length, the 10x dual-lens or a 3-lens optical model is the practical choice.

Three-lens iCSee cameras put a fixed wide lens above a moving head that carries the zoom. You get the whole scene and a close-up at the same moment, which a single zooming lens cannot give.
The Anssipo 3-lens sets a 2K, 3.6mm bullet lens with a 100° view above a 2K dual-lens pan-tilt head. The lower head pans 355°, tilts 100° and zooms 4.3x optically, 8x hybrid. It tracks a person at about 30 feet by day and by night.
The 6MP 3-lens PTZ reaches 4x optical. Its app shows two fixed views on top and the rotating view below, and the rotating lens turns 350°. The main stream is 2304×2592, the height of two 2304×1296 frames stacked, with an 800×896 sub-stream for quick previews.
Read that maker's distance figures closely. It quotes clear viewing within 10 metres and night vision to 5 metres, which is short for a driveway. It suits a yard, a parking bay or a workshop floor better than a far gate.
A fixed 100° lens holds the whole scene while the lower head zooms 4.3x optically, 8x hybrid, and tracks a person at about 30 feet. The 32GB card in the box starts recording on day one.
See this cameraA readable plate depends less on the zoom figure than on pixels across the plate, the viewing angle, the car's speed and the light. Zoom helps only when it puts more real pixels on that small rectangle.
Moving cars blur at night because the camera lengthens its exposure in low light. A car crawling through a gate is readable where the same car at street speed is not. That is why the choke point matters more than the zoom figure.
Presets and auto-return help here. The Anssipo and the SDTNOVA dual-lens return the tracking lens to its default point after following a person. The GESKS 4K triple-lens offers customisable preset positions across its 355° pan.
How many pixels a face or plate needs, and at what distance each resolution delivers them, is worked out in the resolution guide for 1080p, 4MP, 5MP and 4K.
A single-lens PTZ that zooms in on a gate loses everything else in the yard until it zooms back out. An iCSee dual-lens camera solves that by leaving one lens wide and fixed while the other turns and zooms.
On the SDTNOVA dual-lens, both 3MP views share one screen, the fixed one on top. Tap a point on the upper image and the lower lens swings to it and locks on, with up to 5x digital zoom. It joins 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi, which helps a zoomed stream stay smooth.
The 180° panoramic is an iCSee Wi-Fi panoramic camera: it joins two lenses side by side into one 180° image, with 4x digital zoom. The maker lists preset cruise but no pan or tilt range. Its 8MP version records 4MP per lens, and its 4MP version 2MP per lens. No iCSee 180° camera of this type is sold as 5MP, so a search for one ends at these two versions.
Mount a dual-lens head so the fixed lens covers the approach and the zoom lens has a clear line to the gate. Check the outdoor power options before drilling, since a zoomed stream needs a steady link, and size the card with the SD card notes, because two lenses fill it faster than one.
On the 8MP dual-lens PTZ, no: its 10x is digital. Among the compact heads, iCSee camera optical zoom reaches 4.3x on the Anssipo 3-lens and 4x on the 6MP 3-lens PTZ.
30x optical zoom comes on larger PTZ domes with a motorised zoom block, usually wired. The compact Wi-Fi dual- and 3-lens heads stop at 4.3x optical and 10x digital.
Yes on the dual- and 3-lens models: the moving lens follows a person while the fixed lens keeps the wide view. A single-lens head tracks by turning, so the rest of the scene leaves the frame.
The SDTNOVA dual-lens joins 2.4 and 5GHz on two of its three versions. The other zoom models are 2.4GHz only, and the 8MP dual-lens PTZ adds an Ethernet port for a cable.
Close to the line cars drive, aimed where they slow down, with the zoom lens saved as a preset on the gate. A shallow angle and a slow car matter more than the zoom figure.
